A Quick Guide to Prepare MIG Welding Equipment for Industrial Tasks

An arc welding process or MIG welding requires a wire electrode and welding gun to weld two materials. You need to set-up and execute every part of the MIG welding equipment properly, in order to ensure success of the process.


Technically known as shielding gas (GMAW, gas metal arc welding), it directly denotes the welding process. You should consider many things at the time of setting up the parts ofMIG welding equipment. Here are some basic guidelines in this respect.

1. Cable check
Cables are the most important part of MIG welding equipment. You need to check every connected cable well before striking an arc. Every cable connection needs proper inspection, further, it is important to fit each connection tightly and remove any fraying cable. Ensure there is no damage in the cable connection.

2. Electrode polarity selection
Before striking an arc, you should fix the required electrode polarity for a particular MIG welding. You can find them inside of the welding machine. MIG welding process needs DC electrode positive, so you need to find the polarity connection and arrange it accordingly.

3. Gas flow settlement
MIG welding equipment performs with the shielding gas, for which, the flow rate of gas should lie between 20 to 25 cubic feet per hour. Make sure there are no leaks anywhere. Still, if you come across any leak, change that particular MIG welding equipment immediately.

4. Tension check
The tension in the wire should be perfect as lesser or higher can spoil the overall performance. You need to fix the tension manually to avoid bubbles in the weld.

5. Consumables inspections
A general view on consumable is necessary to debar the unnecessary problems, like replacing the rusty wires and worn contact tips, eliminate the excess spatter, etc.
